I Have Walked Among the Gallows

I sit and read such woeful tales,

Of love and loss

The cold grasp of Death

Reaching out, seeking the ones we hold dear

Do we fear Death?

Or do we embrace it?

That depends on the person it seeks

If death came knocking at your door

Would you invite him in?

Quote your knowledge

“We all have to die someday”

Yes

We all have to die someday

But that does not mean we are not immortal

For our spirits and our names shall live on

I have walked among the gallows

More times than I care to recite

All around me

The foul stench of the deceased

A stench I’ll never forget

I have walked side by side

With the demons of Hell

But I too have conversed

With the Angels of Heaven

They sang in their choir

Such enlightening gospels

Uplifting melodies

I could almost fly

I have walked among the gallows

Seen more than I should see

All around me

The sharp blade of betrayal

A pain I’ll never forget

I watched as my world

Crashed to the ground

Like the tears

Crystal memories shattered

I pondered on what I believed was true

Only to discover

Like my heart

A piece was missing

Something that made the puzzle

Incomplete

I have walked among the gallows

Imprisoned by those I trusted

The chains of torment

Trapping me inside my own mind

I have met the man with no soul

His heart is cold

His words are spoken

With no remorse, no guilt

I would say his demons are inside

But that would be denying what I see

For he IS the demon

That left nothing of my friend

I have walked among the gallows

I have strolled down the graveyard path

I have wept over love lost

I have placed at your stone

A rose

Forgive me sweet angel

For I have let you fall

I was blinded by my fear

I could not believe it to be true

Now you’re watching over me

We’ll meet again my love
