What We Fear

Its not the dark you fear
Just the unknown that's in it
Hidden in the shadows
Out of sight
Beyond all light
The fear of not knowing

Its not the height you're afraid of
Just the fall
As you descend to the earth
Overpowered by gravity
That feeling you get in your stomach
In your mind, flashes your life

We never fear what we claim to
Its not the bug its the bite
Its the crash and not the flight
We try to cover up the full truth

We need to be more honest
Never say "I'm afraid of roller coasters"
Because truly in your mind
What you truly fear
Is that one of the screws will come loose
And the coaster will derail

Or that your safety rail doesn't lock
And during the big loop
You'll fall out upside down
End up in the hospital

Fear is our greatest strength
And our greatest weakness
We need fear
To truly understand ourselves

So next time, truly think
Why do you fear this and that?
And then, when you're at your peak
Close to running away

Go towards your fear
Face it head on

Because only then can you truly understand
Yourself as a human being

If you're afraid of crashing
Get on a plane and go on holiday
If you're afraid of heights
Go rock climbing or sky diving
If you're afraid of a bug
Pick it up and soon you'll see
It's more afraid of you
Than you are of it

I'm not saying live without fear,
Because that's what makes us human
I'm just saying don't be afraid to face it
Because it's what makes us feel alive
