The Throne of Night
Whilst sleeping soundly within your blanket
The night sits upon his throne, casting shadows
Whilst you sleep soundly, your head on soft pillows
The night weaves surreal images for your mind
The finest thread of your fears are weaved into nightmares,
The bottles of hope and aspirations, are mixed into your dreams
Yes, Night sits upon its throne and commands the mind
And last night, the Night took my mind to the darkest depths
A large abandoned building, obsidian bricks climb high to build the structure
And whilst we slept soundly in a bed, the harrowing cries of a creature awoke me
I saw not it's true form, it's full figure
Only a shadow amongst the clouds, on some distant island perhaps, not possibly in the middle of the sea,
Perhaps it was,
Perhaps it was standing, tall amongst the clouds,
It's feet beneath the depths of the sea
I never saw its true form, only shadows within the clouds
And even then, only shadows were formed
Lightning struck the sea
When lighting parted the skies
Its cry was not of this world though,
It's cry was something fowl, something lonely,
Something angry and cruel
It awoke me but not her
And as I watched her sleep she seemed at peace
Her breath was soft, not a worry in the world
Then the Night cast it's shadow upon the wall
Beside where my lady did sleep
She woke partially to see me freeze in horror
For as I stated into the void of the shadow abyss that had been cast upon the stone wall
I saw eyes, glowing crimson, peering at me,
And such a beastly face peered at me from the void
Only two eyes, glowing red from the shadows, almost blinding amongst the darkness
What I saw within the Night, was too wretched for me imagine even within the light of day
It drifted back into the abyss, slowly it vanished before my very eyes
But what came next was worse
As skeleton hands reached out,
Grasping at the woman I loved, my sweetheart, my darling
They dragged here into the abyss
They took her from me, and yet I could not react
It wasn't until the shadow that had been cast upon that stone wall,
Began to dissipate and disappear that I cried out her name
Reaching out for her my hand hits the wall,
I cry out her name, but there is no response, I cry out her name but there is only silence
Lightning, then silence
I ran dun stairs, through the obsidian structure that should have kept us safe,
The obsidian structure that couldn't keep my sweetheart safe
I burst out the door and upon the stone bridge over dark waters of the most I cry out her name,
But there is no response,
I cry out her name, but there is only silence,
Lightning, then silence
I hear the hallowed cries of the creature in the clouds,
I hear it's cries and head to the window from which I saw it last, but it is too close this time, for me to see its entirety,
So I climb the obsidian tower to the highest point, to its roof
As I stand looking over broken walls, I look up, and still never seeing it's true form,
I see only it's shadow,
I never saw its true form, only shadows within the clouds
And even then, only shadows were formed
Lightning struck the sea
When lighting parted the skies
I heard a scream from the edge of the tower,
A voice soft, yet frightened,
Voice sweet, yet oh so afraid
My sweetheart is here, she waits for me
I step to the edge and look down, all the way down the tower to the dark watery depths that lie below
I hear a scream from the water,
A voice soft, yet frightened,
Voice sweet, yet oh so afraid
My sweetheart is here, she waits for me
I take the leap, I fall to my pending doom
Yet I feel nothing,
The water wraps around my body, the thunder claps in the sky
I see nothing in the water except the shadows
I ear whispers but nothing more
I try to swim but my body is held by an unknown force, preventing me from reaching the surface for air
I hear the hallowed cries of the creature in the clouds, more clearly now than before,
I see red eyes glowing the mirky depths of this water, the shadowy abyss that I am now held captive by
And as the water cuts down the last breaths of air within my lungs, I begin to fade into unconsciousness,
I begin to fade into an eternal slumber
I begin to fade from existence
Then as the Night leaves his throne, to let Day take his seat, I slowly awake
I slowly awake and begin to exist once more
Exist as I did once before
Because Night made me think I had passed into some horrible abyss,
But day reminds me that the images are a figment of the Nights creation within my mind,
And yet, such images, feeling almost like a new reality, within my brain as I sleep,
Are enough to drive some to insanity,
But my sanity was lost, aeons ago, when the Night took me from this world,
When I fell into that shadowy abyss
I never saw its true form, only shadows within the clouds
And even then, only shadows were formed
Lightning struck the sea
When lighting parted the skies
I cried out her name, but there was only silence,
Lightning, then silence
